Welcome to Year 2.
Our Year 2 team is made up of Mrs Jackson (Yew Class) and Mrs Bennett and Mrs Whitmee (Pine class). Mrs Jackson is the KS1 Team Leader and Assistant Head.
We have a passion for teaching and learning and strive to create independent, resilient learners through our delivery of a creative and engaging curriculum.
Learning in Year 2 builds on the foundations already set in Year 1 such as phonics knowledge, developing breadth of reading and mental fluency and place value in maths.
We teach foundation subjects such as geography and history through the international primary curriculum (IPC). Our topics this year are People of the Past, Buildings and Hooray let’s go on Holiday.
Some of the highlights of the year are our Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter’s tea party, dressing up as significant people from the past and our holiday to the seaside. These practical real-life experiences help consolidate the children’s learning.
Have a look at our Year 2 highlights; there is so much more for us to share.
In Year 2 children are taught phonics daily and we follow the Letters and Sounds framework for phonics. For reading, we use a range of schemes banded by colour through which the children progress. More information can be found on our Phonics & Reading pages.

School Drop off and Pick up
Entrance: Pyle Hill gate
Drop off: 8:35am
Pick up: 3:10pm
Pyle Hill gate will open at 8.30 and 3.05pm
Staff will open classroom doors to receive children until 8.35 and at 3.10pm to release them.
The Pyle Hill gate will open at 8.30 for parents to access the school site
Parents are asked to wait in the area outside of the Y2 classroom doors – see map
Staff will not open classroom doors to receive children until 8.35
Y2 children will be greeted and let in by Y2 teachers and staff through the classroom doors
At the end of the day, the Pyle Hill gate will be opened at 3.05pm and parents can wait in the area outside the Y2 classroom doors for staff to let the children out at 3.10pm to their named adult.
What do I do if I have another child in another year group?
If you have younger children, then we recommend you drop them off first before your Y2 child.
Drop your Y2 child off at this gate and then your elder child/ren can walk to their classrooms from the Y2 drop off point independently. Alternatively, if your other children are able to walk to their classrooms independently they can all be dropped off at the Nightingales gate.
